AP LITERATUre Vocabulary

Vocabulary Standard from the CCRS

40. Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression. [L.11-12.6]

Vocabulary Assignments

We will have 8 units of vocabulary this term.

Students will make a set of note cards for each unit using the guidelines below.  

They may use any size note card, but ideally will use red for prefixes, use yellow highlighter over black for the root, and use blue for suffixes.

Example Note Card for Vocabulary

You will make handwritten note cards for each word on the vocabulary list.  
  1. Write the word and part of speech on the top line.
  2. Write the definition of the word in a way that you can understand it.
  3. Break the word into its prefix, root, and suffix (use red for prefixes, use yellow highlighter over black for the root, and use blue for suffixes.
  4. Write two words you know with that same prefix, suffix, or root.
  5. Draw a small picture to help you remember the word.


These cards are due on Fridays and are worth 75 points (15 @ 5 points each).

Vocabulary Tests

Vocabulary tests will be taken on scantron forms and will be multiple choice.  Each test is worth 100 points.
